Delta Air Lines resumes seasonal flights between Detroit and Rome

On June 5, Delta Air Lines resumed its non-stop flights between Detroit and Rome – Fiumicino: this is the airline’s fourth route operating between the United States and the Italian capital. The airline’s last commercial operation between these two cities was on October 26, 2019 on a service performed on Boeing 767-300ERs.

Present at the ceremony celebrating the reactivation of this route were Ilse Janssens,Delta’s General Manager Continental Europe Sales and Scott Boswell, Minister Consular at the U.S. Embassy in Rome.

Flight DL 206 was operated on an Airbus A330 registered N805NW, which took off from Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) at 18:12 local time and landed at Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport (FCO) at 09:08 the following day, after eight hours and 56 minutes.

The return of this direct connection is the crowning of a record summer for Delta Air Lines, which from today – and for the rest of the summer peak – will operate 7 daily flights connecting our airport to 4 main destinations in the U.S. and offering more than 3,600 seats daily“, commented Ivan Bassato, Aeroporti di Roma’s General Aviation Director.

Delta’s flight schedule between Detroit and Rome

  • Detroit – Rome Flight DL 206 DTW 17:55 – FCO 08:45+1 daily flights.
  • Rome – Detroit Flight DL 207 FCO 11:00 – DTW 15:00 daily flights.

The route is operated on Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a capacity of 282 passengers in four classes (34 Delta One/21 Premium Select/24 Delta Comfort+/203 Main Cabin) and promotional fares start at USD 1,459 round trip.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Ente Nacional para la Aviación Civil (ENAC), 88,280 passengers were mobilized in 2019 between Rome and Detroit. In addition, that same year Delta carried 891,318 travelers between Italy and the United States.

For this summer season, Delta has an offer of 42,420 weekly seats and 12 daily flights between the U.S. and Italy, it is the largest airline operator in this market in terms of seats per offered seat kilometer (ASK) according to Cirium,

Rome – Fiumicino (FCO)
  • Atlanta: two daily flights on Airbus A330-300.
  • Detroit: daily flights on Airbus A330-300.
  • Boston: daily flights on Airbus A330-300.
  • New York (JFK): three daily flights on Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 767-400ER and 767-300ER.
Milan – Malpensa (MXP)
  • Atlanta: daily flights on Boeing 767-300ER.
  • New York (JFK): twice daily flights on Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 767-300ER.
Venice (VCE)
  • Atlanta: daily flights on Boeing 767-300ER.
  • New York (JFK): daily flights on Boeing 767-300ER.
