#TBT: Aeroposta Argentina flights in 1937

On September 5th, 1927, Aeroposta Argentina was founded, a subsidiary of Compañía General Aeropostal (or Compagnie Générale Aéropostale in French). The airline had services within the country, as well as regional and intercontinental services.

Paris was the only European destination in Aeroposta’s connection network, since it had French capitals during its beginnings.

Aeroposta Argentina’s fleet consisted mainly of Latécoère 25, Latécoère 28, Potez 25 and trimotor Junkers Ju-52, among others.

As a consequence of the 1929 crisis, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale ceased operations, due to the French government’s refusal to grant new loans. The entire company was taken over by Air France, which remains active today.

The closing of Compagnie Générale Aéropostale and the Argentine state’s lack of help caused Aeroposta Argentina to cancel flights in 1931.

By decree of September 29th of that year, the company is subject to a lease and control contract of the Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil and the Dirección General de Correos y Telégrafos, for the exploitation of the line between Bahía Blanca and Río Gallegos, on an experimental basis and for a term of six months, leasing the flight material and the facilities that the airline had. In legal terms, the airline was designated Aeroposta Nacional, although at company level it continued to be called Aeroposta Argentina S.A.

Later on, Aeroposta acquired planes that Air France had deactivated and which had previously been part of Compagnie Générale Aéropostale. In September 1935, it extended its services between Bahía Blanca and Río Gallegos to Río Grande.
