Embraer supports lawsuit against Boeing for “talent poaching”

Embraer, together with other Brazilian entities of the Security and Defense sector, support the lawsuit against Boeing for its strategy of co-opting Brazilian engineers.

According to the Xinhuanet media, Embraer informed through a statement that it supports the actions filed by the Brazilian Association of Defense Materials Industries (ABIMDE) and the Brazilian Aerospace Industries Association (AIAB) before the Federal Court of Sao José dos Campos, in Sao Paulo, for Boeing to stop “co-opting” qualified engineers who worked in the Brazilian companies Embraer, Akaer, Avibras, AEL Sistemas and Safran.

“Embraer supports the legal action initiated against Boeing. We are following the case, knowing that this is a matter of national interest,” the document stated.

AIAB president Julio Shidara estimated that in 12 months Boeing hired more than 200 highly qualified Brazilian professionals specialized in security, defense and aerospace.

“The impact is already significant: ten of the most important strategic companies in the defense sector already have engineers co-opted by Boeing. Some have lost around 70% of their personnel in specific areas essential to the business”, explains Roberto Gallo, president of ABIMDE.

According to information from our partner site Aeroin, the professionals hired by Boeing are mainly from the aerospace segment. They are highly qualified engineers, trained in public institutions (such as ITA, UFMG and UFSCar) with more than 10 years of experience in the sector, having participated in projects in the areas of Defense and Security, or possessing essential knowledge for national sovereignty and having access to qualified information and classified data of strategic projects for Brazil.

Moreover, Boeing had access to confidential Embraer information between 2018 and 2020, when the U.S. company announced the purchase, later frustrated, of the commercial aviation part of the Brazilian manufacturer.
