Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A330 Runway excursion in Ushuaia: What we know

-

Today, images were released of an operational situation that occurred on Saturday, September 3 at Ushuaia airport, capital of Tierra del Fuego province, involving an Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A330.

As reported by AV Herald, an A330-200 with registration LV-GKP was taxiing for departure, entered the runway on taxiway B (near the runway 07 threshold) and turned right lining up on the runway 07 threshold for takeoff.

While turning onto the turn apron the aircraft temporarily ran off the paved surface with one of the landing gear struts at about 20:21L (23:21Z), continued the turn, lined up and took off. The aircraft landed safely at Ezeiza about 3 hours after departure.

AV Herald shared a series of images showing the ground contact and the turn mark on the runway with ground debris.

According to the portal, the aircraft remained on the ground in Buenos Aires for about 9 hours, and then continued the service. At the time of publishing, no reference to the aforementioned operational situation was found at the JST (Argentina Transportation Safety Board) intervention database.

An analogous event occurred in May 2019 with an Austral Líneas Aéreas Embraer 190AR, which collapsed the right main gear in the area behind the double yellow line of the Resistencia (Chaco) airport commercial platform, motivated the intervention of the agency.

This event was investigated as an Incident, under file 48892704/19. The file was later closed, with no final report known.

48892704-19

Aviacionline contacted the company, which indicated that “we had no incident or report of the event mentioned.”

This is a developing story.
