JetSMART Peru added a third A320neo and inaugurated its flights to Talará

JetSMART Peru announced that it took delivery of the third of four Airbus A320neo aircraft that the airline plans to incorporate, enabling it to reinforce its local fleet. It also inaugurated its sixth domestic destination: Talara (TYL).

The aircraft has the registration CC-AWL and carries on its tail the distinctive image of the Tucúquere Owl, a nocturnal bird that lives in South America, mainly in Argentina, Chile and Peru.

The CC-AWL was delivered to Airbus’ Hamburg/Finkenwerder (XFW), Germany, factory in December 2019. The aircraft will join the CC-AWJ (Arica Hummingbird) and CC-AWK (James Flamingo) operating in the trans-Andean country.

“With almost two months of operation we are incorporating a new aircraft that will allow us to move forward with our operation plans in the country and achieve that more Peruvians can fly at ultra-low prices through 13 domestic routes from Lima and Arequipa.” Expressed Francesca Luna, General Manager of JetSMART in Peru.

In this way, the airline will add 5 domestic routes this month:

  • Arequipa (AQP) to Tarapoto (TPP); inaugurated on August 8, with two weekly flights.
  • Lima (LIM) to Talara (TYL); inaugurated on August 10, with four weekly flights.
  • Lima (LIM) to Juliaca (JUL); inaugurated Aug. 17, with four weekly flights.
  • Lima (LIM) to Iquitos (IQR), starting Aug. 24, with five weekly flights.
  • Lima (LIM) to Cajamarca (CJA), starting August 31, with four weekly flights.

The company entered the Peruvian domestic market last June. It connects Lima with Arequipa (AQP), Cusco (CUZ), Piura (PIU), Trujillo (TRU) and Tarapoto (TPP), and in November it will add Chiclayo (CIX) to its network of destinations.

The subsidiary also operates three other routes that do not go through the Peruvian capital, connecting from its second base in Arequipa (AQP) to Cusco (CUZ), Trujillo (TRU) and Piura (PIU).

“We are motivated by the good response we have had from the Peruvian market in our first months of sales and start of operations, which is reflected in the more than 250,000 tickets sold,” concluded Francesca Luna.

JetSMART Chile operates from Santiago (SCL) to Arequipa (AQP) and Trujillo (TRU) with two flights per week each link; and to Lima (LIM) with eleven flights per week. While the Argentine subsidiary will add a route between Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE) and the Peruvian capital on September 21, with four weekly flights that will increase to one daily flight in December.

Sixth domestic destination

Aeropuertos del Perú and JetSMART inaugurated the Lima – Talara route on August 10, with four weekly flights on A320neo aircraft with 186 seats, an offer of 1,488 seats per week.

“The alliance with JetSMART allows us, in addition to continue promoting the reactivation of the sector and tourism, to continue developing new alternatives and with more frequencies for all; as well as improving our air connectivity as a country. This inaugural route increasingly aims to achieve milestones for tourism in the region, since, through new flight alternatives, we expect an increase in the demand of passengers seeking to travel to the north of the country”, stated Business Development Manager, Ernesto Di Laudo.

The ultra low cost airline becomes the second company to commercialize this link, and will have to compete with LATAM’s 16 weekly flights, with an offer of 6,204 seats per week and operated by Airbus A319/A320 aircraft.

Talará Airport received 318,843 passengers in 2019, with LATAM and VIVA Air Peru operations.
