Saudia launch flights to Barcelona from Jeddah and Riyadh

Saudia, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, inaugurated its regular flights between Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) and the cities of Jeddah and Riyadh. Until now, the company had only operated at the Catalan airport on an occasional basis.

On July 2nd, it completed the first flight from King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) in Jeddah. Saudia will offer two flights a week in both directions, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, throughout the year. Flights are operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft, configured with 24 seats in Business Class and 274 seats in Economy Class.

On the other hand, the company launched its flights between Barcelona and Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport (RUH) on June 30th. It will maintain two weekly connections, on Mondays and Thursdays, until August 30th. Flights are operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

The inauguration of the services is part of a series of new international route openings under the agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Air Connectivity Program. Barcelona became the airline’s second destination in Spain, after Madrid.

In addition, it will offer four weekly flights to Málaga from Jeddah and Riyadh between July 16th and September 5th.

During 2022, Saudia will add nine other international destinations to its network: Beijing (PEK), Seoul (ICN), Chicago (ORD), Marrakech (RAK), Amsterdam (AMS), Moscow (SVO), Bangkok (BKK), and Entebbe (EBB).

“This collaboration benefits Saudia’s strategic objective of bringing the world to Saudi Arabi”, noted Essam Akhonbay, the airline’s VP of Marketing and Product Management. “The direct scheduled flights to and from Barcelona all year round will increase the tourism and business traffic between the two destinations”, he added.
