United Airlines inaugurates flights to Palma de Mallorca

On June 2 United Airlines inaugurated its third destination in Spain with an unprecedented service between Newark (EWR) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI). With three weekly flights, this will be the only non-stop connection between the Balearic Islands and the United States.

Flight UA236 took off from Newark – Liberty International Airport (EWR) at 22:04 local time with 204 passengers, representing an occupancy factor of 95.3% and landed in Palma de Mallorca (PMI) at 11:47 the following day.

“The new service from Palma de Mallorca is the first and only flight between Mallorca and the United States and adds to the airline’s year-round daily nonstop services from Madrid and Barcelona to New York/Newark, as well as seasonal services from Madrid and Barcelona to Washington D.C.” said Isabel Pereira, Marketing and Communications for Portugal and Spain at United Airlines.

“United offers more destinations in Spain than any other North American airline” Pereira added.

Flight Itinerary

  • Newark – Palma de Mallorca Flight UA 236 EWR 21:05 – PMI 11:10+1 Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
  • Palma de Mallorca – Newark Flight UA 237 PMI 12:55 – EWR 16:10 Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The flights will be operated in Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with 214 seats in two classes (30 Polaris Business Class/184 Economy). This new service will be seasonal and will end on September 23, 2022.

According to Anna aero, New York was one of Palma de Mallorca’s (PMI) most underserved destinations without nonstop flights. In 2019 a total of 29,380 of passengers flew indirectly to the Balearic Island.

United Airlines schedule in Spain

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, United will have an offer of 16,746 seats per week between the United States and Spain, it will be the company’s biggest bet in this market. The Chicago-based airline will offer four destinations in Spanish territory from its two main transatlantic hubs, the schedule is as follows:

Newark (EWR)
  • Barcelona (BCN) daily Boeing 777-200ER flights.
  • Madrid (MAD) daily flights on Boeing 767-400ER.
  • Tenerife – South (TFS) three flights per week on Boeing 757-200 (starts June 9).
  • Palma de Mallorca (PMI) three flights per week on Boeing 767-300ER.
Washington Dulles (IAD)
  • Barcelona (BCN) daily flights on Boeing 777-200ER.
  • Madrid (MAD) daily flights on Boeing 767-400ER.
