Portland resumes transatlantic flights

Portland (PDX) is the main airport in the state of Oregon in the United States. As a result of health restrictions due to the pandemic, transatlantic flights were drastically reduced in the last two summers, the last operation from PDX to Europe was on October 19, 2021, by Icelandair, the only company to offer long-haul flights last year.

Delta’s return to the old continent from Oregon

As of May 5, Delta Air Lines resumed services between Portland (PDX) and Amsterdam (AMS), the carrier’s last operation on this route was in March 2020. With this restart the airline reconnects Oregon nonstop to Europe, and the airline expects to resume transpacific flights soon.

Flight Itinerary
  • Flight DL 178 PDX 13:20 – AMS 08:30+1 Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
  • Flight DL 179 AMS 09:55 – PDX 11:15 Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The services will be operated on 282-seat Airbus A330-300 aircraft with upgraded cabins, including Delta Premium Select products. Beginning in June, the route will increase to daily flights.

More restarts

Condor, Germany’s most popular leisure airline, will return seasonal service between Frankfurt (FRA) and Portland (PDX) from May 13 with three weekly flights operated on Boeing 767-300ERs. In addition, with its partners such as Lufthansa and SAS, it will be able to offer Oregon guests more options for travel to Europe.

Flight Itinerary
  • Flight DE 2090 FRA 15:15 – PDX 17:10 Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.
  • Flight DE 2091 PDX 19:00 – FRA 14:35+1 Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.

“We are excited to have Condor return to PDX,” said Port of Portland Air Service Director David Zielke.

“Typically, our region sees a doubling of travel to Europe in the summer. This flight gives travelers in our region a convenient non-stop option to get to the heart of Germany,” added Zielke.

Icelandair from May 10 resumes operations between Reykjavik (KEF) and Portland (PDX) with four flights a week on 180-seat Boeing 757-200s. Last year the Icelandic flag carrier was the only carrier to offer long-haul flights to PDX.

As of June 3, British Airways starts a new service between London Heathrow (LHR) and Portland (PDX) with five weekly flights on a 214-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the only non-stop connection between Oregon and the United Kingdom.
