Boeing cuts support and maintenance to Russian airlines and suspends Moscow operations

-

Through a statement issued on the evening of March 1, Boeing announced that it has decided to “suspend parts, maintenance, and technical support services to Russian airlines.”

The company will also suspend operations at the Boeing Design Center, a global support operations hub and one of the company’s most important offices.

The Moscow BDC was instrumental in the design of the 787 Dreamliner and 747 Dreamlifter, and also provides 24/7 incident assistance in coordination with other centers. Approximately 500 engineers report directly to the Moscow office.

Boeing assistance centers working on global 24/7 support are located in Moscow, Russia; Seal Beach in California, USA; and Kyiv, Ukraine.

In total, Boeing has a workforce of approximately 1,300 employees on Russian territory. In addition to the design center, the company opened a training center in Skolkovo, outside Moscow, in 2016.

Another 1100 employees report to the engineering center in Kyiv, named after Stepan Tymoshenko, a Ukrainian-American scientist and professor considered the founder of modern science in the field of aerospace materials and constructions.

In the release, the company states that “our teams are focused on ensuring the safety of our partners in the region.”

This is a developing story.
