As part of the largest expansion of the transatlantic network in its history, United Airlines will launch flights to Palma de Mallorca (PMI) and Tenerife Sur (TFS) next summer, becoming the American carrier with the largest number of destinations served in Spain.
Based on data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Estadísticas, in 2019 United Airlines handled 457,162 passengers and almost 6,000 tons of cargo through 1,984 air operations between Spain and the United States, becoming the third-largest U.S. airline in the Iberian country.
In 2021 with the openings of the European Union and the United States, the company managed to recover part of its operations, carrying 117,940 passengers and more than 3,100 tons of cargo in 646 air operations, representing a recovery of 25.8%, 52.1% and 32.6% respectively.
Balearic islands
United will launch a new seasonal service between New York/Newark (EWR) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI) with three weekly frequencies from June 2 through September 23. It will be the only long-haul flight to the Balearic Islands. In 2019, unattended traffic on the route was 29,380 passengers, according to Therouteshop.

- New York/Newark – Palma de Mallorca – Flight UA236 EWR 20:55 – PMI 11:00 three flights weekly, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
- Palma de Mallorca – New York/Newark – Flight UA237 PMI 12:55 – EWR 16:10 three flights weekly on Wednesday, Friday, and Monday.
The flights will be operated in a 214-seat Boeing 767-300ER in two classes with new cabins, which include the company’s new Polaris product.
Canary Islands
United will launch a new seasonal service between New York/Newark (EWR) and Tenerife – South (TFS) with three weekly frequencies and will be available from June 9 through September 29. It will be the only flight to North America from the Canary Islands. In 2019, unattended traffic on the route was 12,386 passengers according to Therouteshop.

- New York/Newark – Tenerife South – Flight UA248 EWR 21:50 – TFS 09:55+1 three flights weekly, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- Tenerife South – New York/Newark – Flight UA249 TFS 12:00 – EWR 14:55 three flights per week, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Flights will be operated in Boeing 757-200 with 169/176 seats.
