Qantas to resume its iconic Perth-London flight

Qantas will resume flights between Perth (PER) and London Heathrow (LHR) on March 27 with daily operations. With a distance of approximately 14,499 kilometers, this emblematic route is the third-longest in the world and the first for a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Following the partial opening of Australian borders, the carrier delayed the relaunch due to restrictions imposed in Western Australia, and consequently, Qantas has been operating flights to London via Darwin (DRW).

Flight Itinerary

  • Perth – London Heathrow – Flight QF9 PER 18:50 – LHR 05:05+1
  • London Heathrow – Perth – Flight Q10 LHR 11:55 – PER 11:40+1

Qantas has been connecting Australia non-stop to the UK since 2018 on the Melbourne (MEL) – London Heathrow (LHR) via Perth (PER) leg, replacing the Dubai (DXB) stop operated with the Airbus A380. In the short time, the route has been in operation, it has become one of the company’s most profitable, according to Forbes.

Data obtained through the Civil Authority Aviation UK (CAA) indicates that 141,724 passengers were flown between Perth (PER) and London Heathrow (LHR) in 2019.

The Australian flag airline had expected to operate non-stop from Australia’s east coast to Europe, and to this end had chosen A350-1000s for its new era of ultra-long-haul flights. However, due to the pandemic, Qantas has suspended these plans.

Qantas recently announced its second European destination from Perth (PER), Rome (FCO), to which it will operate seasonally. Moreover, the airline will reinstate its service between Sydney and London Heathrow (LHR) via Singapore (SIN) with Airbus A380s.
