LATAM restarts flights between Ecuador and Colombia

-

LATAM confirmed the restart of its flights between Ecuador and Colombia, connecting Guayaquil (GYE) with Bogotá (BOG) and vice versa as of June 15 with the Colombian subsidiary.

Six years have passed since LATAM connected the two countries for the last time in March 2015, with flights from Quito (UIO) to Bogotá (BOG), Cali (CLO) and Medellín (MDE).

The return of connections between the two countries is part of LATAM’s strategy in Colombia to continue its expansion, taking into account that it is one of the regions with the highest growth rate compared to other countries in South America. In fact, LATAM explained that the Colombian subsidiary shows the best recovery parameters.

With this flight, passengers departing from Guayaquil will be able to connect with flights to Miami (MIA), San Pablo (GRU) and fifteen Colombian cities.

The routes between Ecuador and Colombia moved 729,229 passengers in 2019 with an average occupancy of 79%, according to AeroCivil. It currently has routes from Guayaquil to Cali by Avianca, and Guayaquil to Bogotá and Quito to Bogotá, both with Avianca and Wingo.

Avianca dominates the market with 80% of the market share, and the rest is held by Wingo. In fact, Avianca has 24 weekly flights between the two countries and the low cost only has 8 flights a week. The entry of LATAM will necessarily imply a new distribution.
